Toy
Toy Cards are similar to Fields as they apply continuous effects that modify the rules or condition of cards currently in play. Unlike Fields, however, Toy Cards generally only affect a certain number of characters currently in play. Toy Cards interact with other cards in play in one of two ways:
- The first way is through Grabbing. A toy with Grab can be attached to a single character after an associated cost has been paid. Once the Character is Grabbed, the Toy card will provide continuous benefits to the character until either card leaves the play space.
- If the Character that a Toy has Grabbed is restored or regressed, the Toy will continue to Grab the Character so long as it could still Grab said character (ie, the card does not have a restriction to only be attached to adult characters). If it cannot continue to Grab the character, both cards will remain in play, but the Character will no longer gain the effects.
- If a Character that a Toy has Grabbed leaves the Play Space by any means, the Toy Card remains in play.
- Toy cards that stop Grabbing a character for whatever reason, but remain in play, can be reactivated and attached to another character. Any activation costs will once again have to be paid.
- The second way is through a one-time activation that grants an additional effect. Consider this second type an “Action Card in wait”. Once this one-time activation has occurred and all effects are resolved, the Toy Card is sent to Timeout.
Toy Cards can only be played during the active player’s Build Phase. Once played, some Toy cards do have quick effects (shooting star symbol) that can be activated whenever applicable, but many Grab and other effects on Toy cards are not “Quick” effects, and thus can also only be activated during the active player’s Build phase.
When a player puts a Toy Card into play, they will put it into 1 of their 5 Toy Zones in the Play Space. The Toy will remain on the field until it is removed by another card or effect, including its own. A player must have an unoccupied Toy Zone in order to play a Toy Card; if all 5 of a player’s zones are occupied, another Toy Card cannot be activated.
There are two types of Toy Cards: Regular and Shiny.
- Regular Toy Cards can be added to decks in a quantity of 3 per card name. Toy Cards have a goldenrod border with a (teddy bear) icon in the top left corner of card.
- Shiny Toy Cards can be added to decks in a quantity of 1 per card name. Shiny Toy Cards have a purple border with (puzzle cube) icon in the top left corner of card. Shiny Toys typically have a higher power level and complexity of play.
