The play area is where your currently active cards are located, along with your deck and Timeout.
Unless modified by a card in play, your play area has spaces for 5 Characters, 5 Toys and dedicated spaces for one Field and one Goal. Scenes may be placed in any of these spaces and are placed under any card(s) already occupying that space, and do not count as occupying that slot.
